MATCH REPORT | Nightmare (4-0)
The team put on a terrible performance
Real Betis Balompié got defeated today by Levante UD in a terrible performance from the Green and Whites. The home team was superior in all the aspects of the game. Betis barely created any chance in the whole 90 minutes.
The match started poorly for Betis, as Levante only needed eight minutes to score the first goal. Campaña, completely unmarked, appeared in the far post to tap in a cross from the right wing. After the goal, the home team has a couple more approaches to the box, but without consequences.
Betis then tried to get themselves into the game and started to control the ball. However, there was no depth in the plays, and the rivals were trying to take advantage of any mistake to launch a counterattack. In this way, Jason got really close to scoring but Mandi cleared the ball over the line. In the corner kick that followed, Loren deflected the ball in the near post and it went straight into Pau López's face, scoring an own goal involuntarily.
Levante scored the third soon afterwards, but the goal was disallowed for offside. Betis were really struggling in defence and the opposition were every minute more comfortable on the pitch. The first for Betis came in the 40th minute with a shot from León that went wide.
The second half began with one change in Real Betis, with Joaquín coming on for Emerson. However, the plot did not seem to change. Levante were waiting tidy in defence against a team that couldn't circulate the ball with precision nor danger.
After a gross mistake in the midfield, Morales made a run towards the goal. Just after entering the box, he was tackled by Guardado. The referee didn't whistle, but was advised by the VAR and he went to check the play himself. After reviewing it, he changed his decision. Levante skipper Morales took the ball and scored form the spot.
With half an hour left to play, Betis did not seem to improve. In fact, things got even worse, when Levante scored the fourth ten minutes before the end.
