Setién: “This compensates many of the things we do in other games”
Press conference
Quique Setién has addressed the media at José Zorrilla Stadium after the match against Real Valladolid.
Match analysis: "We'd love to play better than we did today but win as we won today, but sometimes the rival is better than you. Today we were not very precise to play in a more attacking way. We had to defend. We did it well, though. They only managed to shoot on goal one or two times, and Pau was superb then. We had the luck to score those two goals that sometimes you miss. This compensates many of the things we do in other games."
Position in the table: "We managed, after being in three competitions, to have progressed a lot. We've been eliminated from the Europa League but we are quite far in Copa del Rey. We've been competitive in the three of them. This is what we said from the beginning. We are a strong team and this victory gives confidence for the Copa match on Thursday and then Getafe in LaLiga. We have a beautiful final stage of the season. Hopefully, we can be there and get into Europe again. It seems that the fourth place is close, but there are going to be many teams fighting for it."
Change of style: "We said the other day that we have to be smarter on the ball. We knew they were going to push and that the pitch was quick today. We had talked about sending some more long balls today. We did it and it worked, but we never refuse to play in short from the back. Also, we don't have that kind of player that can bring long balls down, so what happened today is an exception."
Canales and the national team: "I know is an extra motivation for him. Get back to that status he had some years ago. He's at a top level. I've never seen him like this. He is, alongside Mandi, the player with mores minutes in LaLiga. And that, in the 89th minute he overrun two defenders and gave the assist means he is at a great physical state. There are not many players at his level right now."
Lainez and Barragán: "Lainez got a hard blow in the gluteus and we still don't know what it is. Hopefully, it's just the blow. Barragán felt something in his toe, he couldn't take a step and was in a lot of pain. We have to make tests."
