MATCH REPORT | Back to winning ways (0-2)
Mandi and Joaquín scored the goals
Real Betis Balompié won again tonight against Real Valladolid. The team worked hard to get the three points, and displayed a less brilliant style than usual. The goals came in the final moments of each half. First, mandi opened the score in acrobatic style. Near the end, Joaquín tapped in after a great play from Canales.
The first occasion of the game was for the home team after fifteen minutes of play, with an effort from Michel that went well wide. The pace of the game was a bit low at the beginning, with many interruptions. Barragán got injured before the 30th minute and had to come off. Guardado replaced him.
Also, Lainez received a hard tackle on his back from Calero. The referee did not show any card to the local defender, while the young Mexican had to receive treatment for several minutes, leaving the team with ten men.
The first shot on goal of the game came through Plano, but Pau had no trouble blocking it. The first for Real Betis, and the clearest so far in the game, was for Lainez, whose strong shot from outside the box forced Masip to make a good save.
Already in the injury time of the first half came the first goal. Canales delivered a free kick to the far post, where Feddal jumped higher than the keeper. The ball went towards the centre of the box where Mandi produced a sensational overhead kick to put the ball in the back of the net.
At half time, Lainez was replaced by Joaquín, as the blow received during the match did not allow him to continue. It seemed that Valladolid had come on a bit more intense and a free kick from Verde, that went over the bar, was the first occasion. Minutes later, Pau López made the save of the day to a Guardiola's header. Atonishing from the Green and White keeper.
For some minutes, the locals pushed and compromised Betis. However, the Green and Whites were defending well. Calero had the tie in a corner kick but he headed wide. Betis replied in a counterattack. Francis delivered a Good cross but Joaquín, alone, missed the header. Canales almost made the second with a free kick that went millimetres away.
When Real Valladolid were trying to give the final push, Canales showed up. A long ball from the defence that the Green and White midfielder won. He made a run leaving two opponents behind and assisted Joaquín. The captain had just to tap it in. In this way, the three points came home.
