MATCH REPORT | Beautiful night in Italy (1-2)
Real Betis put on a great performance against AC Milan
Memorable night in San Siro. Real Betis Balompié beat AC Milan after doing a great match, even if the difference should have been bigger and the game became difficult in the final minutes. A goal scored by Sanabria in the first half and an absolute beauty from Lo Celso in the second gave the three points to the team. Also, the referee disallowed a completely valid goal from Sanabria for offside. In the added time, Castillejo was shown a straight red card for a nasty tackle on Lo Celso.
The first chance of the game came just two minutes after the kick-off when Lo Celso intercepted a pass from Reina and assisted Sanabria. However, the Paraguayan left the ball behind in the control and had to shoot after turning around, sending the ball high.
In the initial minutes, the ball was going back and forth, with both teams fighting for the control. The Green and Whites didn't have the possession as usual, but the next occasion was again for the away team, although Barragán headed the ball wide following a cross from Junior. The first chance of the game for Milan arrived halfway through the first half as Higuaín headed a cross also wide.
Just before the first half an hour, Betis took the lead. A good play on the left by Lo Celso whose low cross was tapped in by Sanabria who had taken advantage of the shy try made by Reina to block the ball. A couple of minutes later, the referee wrongly disallowed a goal scored by Sanabria for a non-existent offside of Sergio León. Betis was at this point at their best so far in the game.
Just before half time, the referee was again the protagonist of two plays. First, didn't show any card of any colour to Bonaventura for an ugly tackle on Bartra. Immediately after, Lo Celso run after a long ball from Mandi and tried to lob the ball over Reine, who avoid it with his arm being outside the box, but nothing was given.
The second half began with two changes in AC Milan, with Suso and Cutrone coming on for Bakayoko and Borini. Just after the start, Lo Celso shot high after a pass from Junior. A few minutes later, it was the young left back who tried with a strong effort from outside the box that went a few inches away from the top corner.
It was just a warning of what happened soon afterwards. Giovani lo Celso got the ball way outside the box after a clearance from Milan's defence. The Argentine produced an absolute screamer that went in by the top corner. What a goal. Real Betis continued playing well but more calmly now. AC Milan tried to push forward, but they were not having many chances on goal.
However, Castillejo got really close to shorten lead in the first shot on goal so far in the game for the rossoneri but he found the post. This spurred the Italian side forward and eventually managed to score through Cutrone after an assist from Castillejo.
The game, which had been under absolute control until that point, turned to bring a final nervous ten minutes. The home team claimed penalty for a tackle by Bartra on Castillejo, but the replay showed that the defender had gotten the ball and, in fact, it was Castillejo who kicked the Betis player. The Spaniard who plays at AC Milan was the negative main character of he night as, once in the injury time, he made a quite nasty and unnecessary tackle on Lo Celso. The final arrived and Betis got themselves on top pf the group.
