Manuel Pellegrini will be Real Betis head coach next season
The Chilean manager will be at the helm until 2023
Real Betis Balompié has signed Chilean manager Manuel Pellegrini to take up the reins of thefirst team next season. Te contract between Pellegrini and the Club is until June 2023.
Manuel Pellegrini Ripamonti (Santiago de Chile, 1953) spent his entire playing career at Universidad de Chile. He played 451 games in 13 seasons with the 'U' and also played in the Chilean National team. He made his debut as a coach in his home club in 1988, and then managed at Palestino, O'Higgins, Universidad Católica and again Palestino. In 199, he had his first international experience in Liga Universitaria de Quito (Ecuador), from where he moved to Argentinean football to successfully coach San Lorenzo de Almagro and River Plate.
He crossed the Atlantic in April 2004, taking charge of Villarreal CF. In the five years he stayed in El Madrigal, the team finished once second and once third in LaLiga; won one UEF Intertoto Cup; and played the Champions League semi-finals against Arsenal in 2006. Pellegrini went from Villarreal to Real Madrid in 2009, where he stayed for one season. In 2010 he signed for Malaga CF, where his biggest deed was taking the team to the Champions League quarter-finals.
His adventure in England began in 2013. In his first season at Manchester City, he won the Premier League and the EFL Cup. In his second season he won again the EFL Cup. Between 201 and 2018, he was at Hebei China Fortune, in the Chinese Superleague and at West Ham United in 2018 and 2019.
He has won one Copa de Chile; one Ecuadorian league; two Clausura Trophies in Argentina; one Premier League and two EFL Cups in England; and one Copa Interamericana.
