MATCH REPORT | Saying goodbye to the season in style (0-2)

Real Betis beat Real Madrid at Santiago Bernabéu

Real Betis Balompié closed the season today with a great victory against Real Madrid. The Green and Whites were quite superior to the rival and displayed moments of great football. The goals came in the second half through Loren and Jesé.

After the kick off, the Green and Whites tried to get the possession and attack, with a couple of approaches but no finishing. In the tenth minute, Kaptoum gave a great pass to Guardado, but the captain couldn't put the ball past Navas. Betis were displaying a high pressing on the rival, and the home side had difficulties to cross the midfield line.

The first try on goal was a header from Lo Celso after an assist from Guardado but Navas blocked the ball.

The first dangerous play for the locals came halfway the first half with a shot from Marcelo that went way over the bar. The Brazilian tried again, this time much closer to the post but still wide, a few moments later. The best so far came immediately after bur on the other end. Bartra produced a great shot from outside the box to the top right corner, where Navas touched with his fingertips to avoid the goal.

Madrid replied with a shot from Benzema that hit the post after a mistake made by Francis. In the following play, Loren tried to lob the ball over Navas, but the Costa Rican made a great save to sent the ball over the bar.

The second half began with a lower pace, although Real Madrid were attacking a bit more now. Vinicius made a great run, dribbled Mandi and shot but Pau López closed the gaps and blocked the ball. In the counterattack that followed, Carvajal tackled Junior down when he was running alone towards the goal.

Two minutes later, though, Real Betis took the lead. Guardado made a run on the left and produced a great pass to the far post where Loren smashed the ball to the roof of the net.

Madrid were trying to react but Betis got really close to scoring in two consecutive plays, both from Lo Celso. First, after a counterattack, Navas made a sensational save to deny the Argentinian. In the play that followed, the midfielder missed the target by millimetres.

In spite of Madrid trying to attack more, Real Betis doubled the lead. Junior got to the base line on the left and delivered a good pass to Jesé who, unmarked, tapped the ball in.

After the second goal, Betis tried to defend through the possession, moving the ball around, quite nicely at some points. Time run out and the team finished the3 season added three final points.
